Station Terms (v1)

Effective date: 13 October 2026.

These terms are between you, the person who runs a receiving station and sends its data to us, and Gökhan İbrikçi, trading as AIS Trail ("AIS Trail", "we", "us"). They apply to the AIS data your station sends to AIS Trail. You accept them by ticking the box when you add a station. Questions: [email protected].

1. What you give us

You give AIS Trail a worldwide, royalty-free, non-exclusive, transferable and sublicensable licence to use the data your station sends: to store it, combine it with other data, make derived data from it, show it on the map and sell it, including in the paid API and in bulk files. For data already delivered, this licence is permanent and cannot be withdrawn.

2. Your rights stay yours

The licence is not exclusive. You may send the same data to other networks at the same time.

3. What you promise

The data is what your own receiver hears over the air. It is not relayed from another network, invented or replayed.

Sending it does not break another agreement you have. For example, a receiver supplied by another network under its own terms must not be used.

You have the right to run the station where it is, with the permission of the property owner, and the site is not inside a restricted military zone.

4. What we give you

There is no payment and no free plan for stations. Your station gets a public page with its statistics, a place in the station list, a "founding station" badge if it is one of the first 20 stations to connect, and an email if it stays offline for 6 hours (only if you give an email address).

5. How your station is shown

The map and the station page show the name you choose, or "Station" and its number if you leave the name blank or hide it. Coverage is shown as 0.1-degree cells (about 11 km). The station's own location point is shown only if you turn it on. API customers see the attribution "AIS Trail receiver network".

6. Privacy

We do not store your IP address. We keep a keyed one-way hash of it to recognise your station's connection, and we delete that hash when you delete the station. Your email address is optional, is used only for station notices and is never shown publicly. The approximate location and antenna height you enter are optional and are not shown publicly unless you turn the location on.

7. Your station key

The station key is the only way to manage a station without an account. Keep it secret. Anyone who has it can see the station's status, change its settings, create a new key or delete the station. If you lose it and the station is not linked to an account, we cannot recover it; add a new station instead.

8. Changes

We will announce changes to these terms on this page, and by email if you gave one, at least 30 days before they apply. A new version applies only to data sent after it takes effect, and the panel will ask you to accept it again.

9. Ending

You can stop at any time: stop sending, or delete the station in the panel, and we stop accepting its data. Data already delivered stays licensed under section 1. We may suspend or remove a station that breaks these terms or sends data that looks relayed, invented or harmful.

10. If AIS Trail changes hands

If AIS Trail is sold or transferred, we will tell you. You can then delete your station, and on request we will give you your station's own data from the previous 12 months.

11. No warranty, and the law that applies

The service is provided as it is. We do not promise that your data will be shown or kept. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law. These terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of Türkiye, and the İstanbul (Çağlayan) Courts and Enforcement Offices have jurisdiction.
